It has long been a dream of mine to see famous paintings done by kids. I thought the only thing I could love more than the world's Great Masterpieces would be these paintings done by kids.
Our first two sessions have been INCREDIBLE! I expected the kids paintings to be fresh and simple. They ARE fresh, but they are NOT simple! The students have done a FANTASTIC job of using the inspiration of great artists to create their OWN unique KidSterPieces.
I am SO proud of them! WAY TO GO!!
I have currently lost my teaching space, and am looking for a new space. As soon as I find one, I will be offering another 8-weekKidSterPieces session for kids ages 6-12.
Starting
with canvases where I have drawn a section (the 'art' word is 'detail')
of great Modern Art Masterpieces, the kids will use their own creative
ideas to express themselves by painting their own versions.
Kids will learn a little bit of Art
History - something about the artist and what people think about his or
her paintings. They will learn about colour (I don't provide green, or
orange, brown, or black, because I think kids should learn how to MAKE
these colours). And they will learn about brush-strokes, how to do them
and how they affect the end results.
The price includes real stretched
canvases and permanent acrylic paint.
Kids should NOT wear their favourite
clothes, even though I provide
them with "painting" shirts!

Who am I? I'm Cat Maven, M.A.,
and I've been an artist and instructor for more than 25 years. I have
primarily sold my work to support the Dundas Valley School of Art
through their yearly art auction. I recently moved to Oakville from
Dundas, and am happy to meet my new neighbours.
KidSterPieces: Cost is $200 for 8 weeks, including $40 for art materials, or $180 if paid in advance. Classes are Saturdays from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. or
Sundays from 12:00 to 1:30
